Google Health Search Launched in India

Google on Tuesday announced that it is launching its health search feature in India, powered by Knowledge Graph. Google health, which is now live in the country, returns relevant and verified medical details, presented as cards, on the search page when online searches on health-related topics are made. India is the third country after Brazil and the United States where Google has launched this feature.
The company made the announcement at a media event in New Delhi, detailing how this capability is making it easier for users to quickly get accurate information. The company noted that one in 20 searches made online is health related. In India, the doctor to patient ratio is also something concerning, Google notes. It's roughly at 1 doctor for 11,500 patients. The feature is also available in Hindi.
The feature, which is live on Google app and search on Android, IOS , and desktop, tells users known symptoms, affected age group and other relevant information to a disease. For instance, as you can see in the image below, searching for "heart attack," on Chrome returns information such as symptoms of heart attack, and what kind of medical diagnosis is required. The search giant also noted that it is launching 'Lite Cards' in India so that it could also cater to users on slow-Internet plans. Users can also download information in pdf for offline viewing.

Vietnam Finds Twins With Different Fathers:Doctor

HANOI, VIETNAM:  Vietnam has identified an extremely rare case of bi-paternal twins -- twins with different fathers -- a professor at a DNA testing lab in Hanoi told AFP today.
A set of twins born to a Vietnamese couple, whose names have not been released, were recently taken for testing because of stark differences in the children's appearances, according to local reports.
"Our Centre for Genetic Analysis and Technology lab has tested and found a pair of bi-paternal twins," Le Dinh Luong, president of the Genetic Association of Vietnam, told AFP.
"This is rare not only for Vietnam, but for the world," he said, explaining that the two children had different fathers but the same mother.
This can happen if two eggs from the same mother are fertilised by sperm from two different men during separate acts of sexual intercourse within the same ovulation period.
According to the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper, the Vietnamese husband requested genetic testing at the Hanoi lab to determine whether he was the biological father of both his wife's twins.
The man's relatives pressured him to take the test because one of the babies looked strikingly different from him and the other child, the report said.
The results indicated that the man was related to only one of the babies.
Ruling out a hospital mix-up, his wife was found to be the biological mother of both children, Tuoi Tre reported.
According to Dan Tri online news site, the twins were the same sex, born on the same day just a few hours apart, but look completely different.
The report said the twins are now two years old and one of them has thick, wavy hair while the other has thin, straight hair.
Another rare case of bi-paternal twins was reported in the United States last year, when a court ruled that a man was only required to pay child support for one girl in a set of twins after DNA tests proved he was not the father of both.                                                          (Source:Google.com)

Gmail Hits 1 Billion Monthly Active Users

It's not just WhatsApp that boasts of more than one billion active users. Google announced on Monday that its email client, Gmail, is also used by more than one billion active users worldwide. At Alphabet's earnings call on Monday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared the news with investors and media, adding that Gmail hit the milestone last quarter. To recall, Gmail had 900 million active users as of May 2015.

Launched in beta in 2004, Gmail has slowly grown to become a household name, with millions of users using it for their personal use, and thousands of businesses relying on Google's service for email. Google removed the beta label from its Gmail client in 2009. Pichai says that there has been a rapid mobile growth in the usage of Gmail.
Over the years, Google has been working on improving the email experience for users. Its filtering has gotten better, and Gmail also sorts the spam, marketing, promotions, and personal emails quite efficiently. Gmail has also become elegant to look at, embracing Material Design, the new design language the company announced with Android Lollipop in 2014.
Also in the same year, Google launched Inbox by Gmail, an email client aimed at making it easier for users to avoid bogus emails and achieve "Inbox Zero," an idea to stay on top of every email that has been sent to you. The app does so, among other ways, by allowing users to quickly dismiss emails using gestures.
Last year, Google announced Smart Reply, a feature for Inbox that allows users to quickly and easily respond with automatically-generated suggested messages. Pichai said on Monday that nearly 10 percent of all responses by users of Inbox by Gmail are being done via Smart Reply.
Gmail joins the league of Google Search, Android, Chrome, YouTube, Google Play, and Google Maps, the other services from the Mountain View-based company that boast of more than one billion monthly active users.
